The Polish agricultural tractor market is still potentially large. There are approximately 1,444 thousand agricultural tractors in use in Poland with an average power of 45.3 kW, their average age is approximately 25 years, and the degree of wear is 77%. From 20 to 30 thousand tractors are registered annually – these machines are both new and used, imported from abroad.

The number and condition of tractors in Poland

The agricultural tractor market is one of the most important segments of the agricultural machinery market. In Poland, it is still a potentially large market. According to the preliminary results of the agricultural census conducted in 2020, there were approximately 1,444 thousand tractors on farms. In 2020, there were about 1.1 tractors per farm on average. The average area of agricultural land per 1 tractor was approximate 10 ha.

The age of a tractor is one of the basic parameters of its wear. Research from 2018 indicates a high degree of machine degradation in Poland – their wear is at the level of 77%. Most tractors have been in use for more than 20 years (the average age is 25 years), and tractors even 40 years old are still in service. Much more used tractors are registered than new ones. The group of used tractors includes machines aged 21-25 – 2954 tractors, 16-20 years – 2941 tractors, and even over 30 years – 2885 tractors (data for 2018).

The age and number of registered tractors vary by region. In the western and northern areas characterised by larger farms, more tractors have greater power and higher prices. Farmers from southern and eastern Poland, where farms are smaller, are more likely to buy second-hand and less powerful tractors.
