The furniture market in Poland

Poland is a leading exporter of furniture globally. The country delivers the most furniture to Germany, the Czech Republic, and Great Britain. The furniture market in Poland brings 2.3% of Polish GDP; thus, it is the highest share of GDP compared to other countries producing furniture in the European Union.

VALUE OF THE FURNITURE MARKET IN POLAND

According to Statistics Poland, in 2020, the total sold production of the Polish furniture market was estimated at PLN 41.8 billion (it was a decrease of 4.16% compared to 2019).

The furniture market includes seating furniture and parts, office and shop furniture, kitchen furniture and mattresses. The largest share in the Polish furniture market is that of sofas, chairs, armchairs, chaise lounges, and their parts (42.7%).

The furniture market in Poland consists of approx. 30 thousand companies, of which 84 are large enterprises, approx. 300 entities are medium-sized firms, 1,282 are small organisations, and the remaining are micro-companies, whose market share covers 94% of all polish furniture manufacturers.

EXPORT AND IMPORT OF FURNITURE

According to Statistics Poland, the value of Polish furniture exports in 2021 amounted to PLN 69.3 billion. Compared to the previous year, it was an increase of 16.50%. Furniture intended for sitting was exported the most – including chairs, armchairs, sofas, and beds (approx. 32.4%).

The report about polish furniture („Polskie Meble Outlook 2022”, prepared for the Polish Chamber of Commerce of Furniture Manufacturers) indicates that the main sales directions are Germany (PLN 20.6 billion, i.e. 34.3% of total exports), followed by the Czech Republic (PLN 4.4 billion, i.e. 7.3%) and Great Britain (PLN 4.2 billion, i.e. 7%). Poland is the fourth country globally in terms of the number of exported furniture (5%). China is in the first place, accounting for over 37% of global exports, followed by Germany (7.2%) and Italy (5.6%). Poland exports more furniture than, among others, United States, Mexico, or Vietnam.

The value of Polish furniture imports in 2021 amounted to PLN 14.6 billion, which is an increase of 52% compared to the previous year. The leading supplier was China, for which the import value amounted to PLN 4.3 billion. Germany was next with the result of PLN 3.4 million.

Poland imports mostly furniture elements – its share in total furniture import amounts to 40.4% (PLN 6.1 billion). In the case of ready-made furniture, the highest value was achieved by upholstered furniture (PLN 6.9 billion) and office furniture (PLN 6.8 billion).
